When I was 10 years old, I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer, and had the affected bone replaced with an expandable endoprosthesis. Recovering from the surgery was no easier for me than going through chemo. I was very thin and had to do a lot of physical therapy to be able to flex my artificial knee and walk normally.
In 2023, I wore heels to a routine appointment with my surgeon to show him how I walk in them. It earned me a beautiful smile with a hint of teeth that I’d NEVER seen on his face before.
