Boss said no phones on shift. So we left ours in the breakroom…including his.

New manager comes in fresh off his Leadership 101 seminar, acting like he’s about to reinvent the workplace. First rule? “No phones during shift. Zero tolerance.” Alright, General.
So we did exactly as told..left our personal phones in the breakroom. Along with the company phone he kept barking about us needing to carry at all times “for emergencies.” Including his, since he’s all about leading by example, right?
Fast forward an hour. The regional manager calls. No one answers. Why? Because all the phones are upstairs chillin’ together on the charger, per his orders.
Man had to sprint two flights of stairs, red-faced, to answer a missed call and explain why no one picked up the “emergency line.” Spoiler: the call was an emergency.
By the end of the day, we got a revised policy: “Let’s just aim for responsible phone usage, team.” Yeah. That’s what we thought.
