British Indian here, currently in the USA.

Got in a heated discussion with one of my friends father’s about whether I’m British or Indian.

Whilst I accept that I am not ethnically English, I’m certainly cultured as a Briton.

My friends father believes that he is more British, despite never having even been to Britain, due to his English ancestry, than me – someone born and raised in Britain.

I feel as though I accidentally got caught up in weird US race dynamics by being in that conversation more than anything else, but I’m curious whether this is a widespread belief, so… what do you think?
